The Setting of the Chronicle

The World of Arcasia

The world of Arcasia — a besieged cliffside kingdom above a river of embers, with glowing eyes lurking in the dark forests below storm clouds

Arcasia is a land balanced on a knife's edge. For generations, humanity has held the high cliffs and fertile vales, while in the deep forests below, creatures with burning bright eyes gather in ever-greater numbers. The war that the seven movements chronicle is the war that will decide which of them inherits the dawn.

At the center of it all stands a girl who was once a slave — dirt-smudged, golden-haired, with blue-green eyes that mirror the sky the kingdom is fighting to keep. She carries no sword. She carries the song that keeps the soldiers standing.

The Ember Vale

A river of molten light cuts through the heart of the kingdom. The Vale feeds the forges of the human army — and draws the creatures toward it like moths.

Movement IV — Ash and Iron

The Watching Forest

No one who enters the pines returns unchanged. Between the trees, pairs of bright eyes open one by one after sunset. The creatures do not attack in daylight. They wait.

Movement V — The Long Night

The Last Bastion

The terraced citadel where humanity makes its stand. Its walls have never fallen, but every stone remembers a name. The final dawn will break here — or nowhere.

Movement VII — Dawn of the Last King
